Current studentship opportunities

Our studentships are usually advertised in the autumn/winter of each year, with deadlines around January-March and projects beginning the following academic year. However, opportunities do arise outside of these times, so keep your eye on this page where the latest opportunities will be updated.

What can you expect?

From science to humanities, we offer a diverse range of studentship opportunities. Here are some examples of the studentships we recently advertised and the university we collaborated with to give you a flavour of the types of doctoral projects we often offer:

  • Where the little things are: understorey plant megadiversity across scales, with Queen Mary University of London
  • Assessing extinction risk for the African Baobab under climate change and habitat degradation, with Swansea University
  • Women and biodiversity: gender and the making of the Kew Fungarium, 1900-1950, with University of York
  • Protecting YEWth: ancient and veteran yew trees as collections of genetic diversity through centuries, with Birkbeck, University of London
  • Unravelling the adaptive value of leaf traits using digital and experimental approaches, with Bath University
