Meet the artists
Find out more about our Seedscapes artists and their pieces taking part in our outdoor exhibition.

Shiraaz Ali with 'Unleashing the vault'
Shiraaz will transform the Millennium Seed Bank’s exterior with vibrant artwork to ‘unleash the vault’ and bring 25 years’ worth of pioneering seed science and global conservation to life outside the building, in a colourful celebration of the Millennium Seed Bank Partnership.

Ed Carter with 'RECALCITRANCE'
Composer Ed Carter presents a captivating soundscape inspired by recalcitrant seeds - those that cannot survive drying or freezing. Drawing on data from the Millennium Seed Bank as a compositional tool, the piece echoes the survival journey of these fragile seeds, with a focus on the plants of Chile. Ed's piece, set amongst the Chilean plants at Wakehurst, will invite you to take 'a coastal walk of the length of Chile'.

Adam Ceramic with 'Seeds in clay: Sculpting Wakehurst's story'
Brighton-based sculpture artist Adam’s impressive piece of over 500 hand-sculpted clay seeds will be set just outside the Seed Bank. Exploring the scale, texture and uniqueness of seeds through his ceramics, the sculptures will be grouped by seeds that are edible, useful, banked at the Seed Bank, and endangered.

Cristina Ochoa with 'Cosmic Seed Basket'
Mexican-Colombian artist Cristina will construct a giant replica of the Erythrina Americana seed with the intention to bring back the spirit of the seed. Visitors will be invited to sit inside the sculpture as spoken word plays, to reflect on the cultural and ecological significance of seeds.

Kristina Pulejkova with 'Seed Stories'
Kristina combines the physical and virtual worlds through the creation of seed-shaped pollinator hotels spread across the landscape. Developed in collaboration with Kew’s Nature Unlocked programme, these interactive sculptures will support ongoing scientific research which visitors can learn more about through Augmented Reality, embedded in each structure.

Studio PTY and James Tapscott with 'Betula Loop'
Australian artist James will create an immersive installation inspired by the Silver Birch (Betula) seed using light, shadow and space to symbolise the seed’s journey. Visitors are invited to travel through the loop.
